bbg update

On Sunday we completed Week Six of BBG 1.0. We feel like that is quite an accomplishment! For those of you who haven’t heard of it, BBG (Bikini Body Guide) is a 12-week fitness program that can be done almost anywhere: at home, in the gym, even while traveling. It requires minimal equipment and minimal time investment. Each workout is broken up into four 7-minute circuits, so all you need is to set aside a block of 28 minutes to accomplish the workout. We purchased the app for our phone and that’s how we follow the BBG program. We started BBG the week of December 10th and have loved being able to fit in three workouts, plus three sessions of low intensity cardio, each week. We even managed to fit our workout in during the holidays! Since we’re halfway through, we wanted to share some general thoughts on what we think so far.

As far as results, we think it’s really to soon to see substantial results. Our main goals for BBG were to gain strength and become toned and fit. So far, we have noticed a definite increase in our strength and toning in our arms. We feel really encouraged that that we will see even more toning and strength by the end of the 12-weeks. We aren’t quitting!! If you started with us, we’d love to hear your thoughts!

Thoughts on BBG so far

No. 1: It’s hard.

No beating around the bush. The workouts are hard. We were so sore after our first week that walking, sitting and even laughing were just plain painful! But it got better and now the day after we do BBG, although we can feel that we worked out, it’s not painful- it actually feels really good 🙂

No. 2: Anytime/anywhere.

As we mentioned above, BBG can really be done just about anywhere. We work out at home, usually during William’s nap time. A yoga mat, set of 5 lb. weights and a jumprope are basically all you need to get the workout done. There are some leg sets that you need a step up, for one of them we use a bench and for the other the first stair on our stairway.

No. 3: Burpees never get easier.

At least not so far! And, just when we thought burpees were as bad as it could get, along came the jump lunge. Ugh! Here’s one of the places where working out with a friend really helps! Doing some of these sets can be brutal and some encouragement goes a long way.

No. 4: Repeat Weeks 1-12

At the halfway point here in Week Six, we are still including modifications in some of the exercises. For some of the pushup sets, we still aren’t strong enough to do them all in a full blown push up mode and finish with “girl” pushups. We have seen our strength grow each week, so we are really encouraged! Our goal is to be able to complete the workout without any modifications and then move onto the next level. We’ll keep you posted!

No. 5: Commit to menu planning each week.

Here is where we really need improvement. Although it’s not officially part of BBG, eating right is an important part of our fitness goals. We are pretty good about making healthy food choices, but where we fall short is in meal planning. Lunch is usually not a problem. We always have organic turkey, avocados, good bread and fruit on hand. We also keep a stock of Amy’s organic burritos in the freezer. The problem we sometimes run into is dinner. Without menu planning, we can end up grabbing something quick and easy- and not always the best choice!

No. 6: New workout clothes always help motivate

Anyone else?! We made a stop at Nordstrom right before starting the BBG workouts and picked up some motivation… New leggings, workout tees and sneakers got us started off on the right track! We always love the Zella workout leggings and we’re especially obsessed with high waisted styles right now.

If you have done BBG, we would love to hear how you like it!

summer packing essentials for a toddler

July 11, 2017

It’s probably not news to most of you, but we absolutely love to travel. And ever since William came along, we’ve made it a point to take him with us whenever we can. We took him on his first trip to London when he was two months old and we haven’t stopped since. He did stay at home when we went on our Babymoon. Now that we’ve taken sixteen toddler flights, I’m working on tips for traveling with a toddler. There really is a big difference between traveling with a toddler vs. traveling with a baby 😉

I’ve always had a strategy for packing when it comes to William…if only I had one for myself! Ha. Now that he’s older that strategy has changed a bit, so I thought I would share my summer packing essentials for a toddler. Knowing that Nordstrom has almost everything we need to pack for William makes it a whole lot easier!

Clothing

  • Onesies/rompers: These one piece outfits make dressing William a piece of cake. They’re easy to put on and so easy for him to wear. Plus they are so soft. A few of our favorites include this striped onesie and this hooded onesie.
  • Shirts: I usually pack polos, but I also like to pack a few t-shirts like this striped tee and this pocket tee for more casual days. I try to do things that will mix and match to extend his wardrobe for our trip.
  • Shorts: These gingham shorts are too cute and they are so soft, too! They are easy to wear with a polo or with one of his tees. The checks also help hide any spills 🙂
  • Jeans: My friends joke that William never wears jeans, but I picked up a pair of jeans for our trip to Vail – it gets cold at night!
  • Pajamas: We’ve officially moved into big boy pajamas (insert mom tears), but how cute is the striped set? I usually pack a pair of pajamas for every night we are gone.
  • Swimsuit: When we are going somewhere that William will be swimming, I usually bring two swim suits, so one can be drying while he’s wearing the other. This plaid one is an all time favorite! And, how cute is this rash guard?

Shoes

  • We take some variety of sandals, moccasins, natives and sneakers with us! My top five summer shoes for toddlers typically make every trip. It may seem like a lot of shoes, but they all serve a purpose!

Toiletries

  • Lotion/shampoo: I always pack Honest travel-size lotion, shampoo and healing balm.
  • Diapers: A lot of people I talk to prefer to pick up diapers when they get to their destination. I’ve always found that it’s easier for me to just pack them. Plus that leaves extra space in our suitcase in case I have time to do any shopping!
  • Bath towel: I usually bring one hooded towel for after the bath or to cozy up after the pool
  • Bath toys: William loves playing with these jungle animals in and out of the tub, so we usually bring them with us!

Carry-On

  • Lovies: William’s blanket and elephant go with us everywhere!
  • Books/Toys: We typically let William pick out a few books and 1-2 toys for the flight and trip. It doesn’t seem like a lot, but he usually ends up playing with cups/straws, cheerios or walking the plane with the flight attendants instead of playing with the toys we bring. This way they don’t take up too much space, but we have an option or two if we need it.
  • Snacks: I always pack snacks for during the flight and also extras for our destination. I really don’t want to have to find a store and shop for snacks as soon as we arrive.
  • Diapers/Wipes: I always bring more than enough diapers and wipes for the flight. After so many flights and unexpected diaper changes, I know that it’s better to be over-prepared!

summer skincare routine

book|travel kit

Now that we are fully into the summer season, we have been using our summer skincare routine daily. Summer weather calls for an adjustment in our normal routine. Even with the humidity we have in Dallas, we need a lot of hydration, but it needs to be lightweight and not oily. Extra sun protection is also needed, because let’s face it, we will be in the sun! Leading up to summer we have been trying lots of new products for our summer skincare needs. We have finally found our summer skincare routine and are excited to share it with you!

PS: Scroll down for two amazing discount codes!

Our Summer Skincare Routine:

Step One: Cleanse face. We have been using this cleanser this summer. It works well for all skin types. It’s a lightweight gel- perfect for summer!

Step Two: Apply serum. We rotate between two serums. For day we use Vitamin C and for night we like this Face Serum or the Longevity Serum. Either is great for anyone who feels like their skin is looking a little dull and has uneven skin tone.vitamin C serum, face serum

Step Three: Apply eye cream. We have been using this Eye Cream for a quite some time and especially love it during the summer. It’s super hydrating without feeling heavy.

Step Four: Apply moisturizer. The Day & Night Cream is in our rotation right now. This cream is soothing and so light on the skin, while being super hydrating.summer skincare, eye cream for summer

Step Five: Make your bed! We always wait a few minutes after we have applied our moisturizer and then continue

*Every few days: Apply this mask for an instant glow! This one is also great for a quick pick-me-up.

Step Six: Now it’s time for sun protection! For our face, we like a mineral sunscreen like this one or this one.  This Sunscreen Oil reminds us of the old suntan oils that we used to use before we knew better! We apply it on our arms, neck, shoulders and any other skin that is exposed. It feels dry to the touch and adds a natural glow.

Step Seven: Apply make up… Did you know that your lip color can actually amplify the effects of the sun? After applying your makeup, use Lip Screen alone or over your lip color for great shine and UV protection!

Step Eight: Finish off your sun protection by using hand cream with SPF to protect from harmful rays while driving. The tub fits perfectly in the cupholder in your car, so you can always reapply while you are out and about!

PS: Traveling this summer? This discovery kit has all of our favorites in the right size for carry-on- and it’s a great value

A few things to note: We have been using these all of these products for months. TULA is a game changer in skincare. It is a probiotic, does not test on animals and is free of any of the questionable ingredients found in many skincare lines. They are offering our readers 20% off (+ free shipping!) with the code bishopandholland20. As far as sun protection, we have been using Supergoop! hand cream in our car for years. It not only protects the back of your hands from the sun but also brightens and improves their appearance. This spring we were introduced to more of the product line and we have loved it all. Supergoop! is offering our readers 25% off from now until July 6th with the code BHLOVESSG!
