To start off the New Year, we asked you guys what you would like to see on the blog in 2018. You had so many great ideas that we can’t wait to work on and so many of you had specific questions for us, so we decided it was time for our first ever Q+A. We can’t believe after a few years of blogging that we have never done one before! PS: We didn’t get through all of them, so let us know if there are any other questions you’ve been wondering about (it can be anything!) and we’ll publish a future Round Two…
Where did you get the name bishop&holland?
So many of you asked this question! When we started the blog, Stia and Katherine were both newlyweds and their first homes were on those two streets. We thought it was such a fun name with some personal history attached to it. Also, it was a name that wouldn’t pigeonhole us; which turned out to be wise decision (thank you God!) since God has definitely moved us in a different direction than we first envisioned.
Do you guys have a full-time jobs?
Katherine works at a law firm in downtown Dallas and has been there for 8 years. Stia worked at a technology company for five years, but when William was born decided to stay home with him and work on the blog full-time. Jean has worked at home since Stia and Justin were born a long time ago 😉
How do you delegate blog work?
In delegating our work load, we have to be mindful that Katherine has a very busy, 9-5 job. She takes complete responsibility for our “The Best Sales this Week” post and also shoots outfits. Jean does 90% of the photography – taking photos/editing/etc. and Stia does a lot of the writing, linking and Instagram and also shoots outfits. Since there are three of us, we have the luxury of one of us picking up the other’s blog job if they get too busy woking on something else or their life is temporarily on overload. One of our favorite parts of bishop&holland is working on brainstorming ideas together!
Are you still doing BBG?
Yes, and sorry for the radio silence on our BBG account! We just started Week 5 this morning and although it’s so hard, we love that it can be done anytime/anywhere. It was hard to keep up during the holidays, but we are thankful that we fit it in when we could and didn’t miss a day! And the best part? We are starting to feel stronger and like we are making some progress!
What does William eat?
Another very popular question from you guys! He’s always been a pretty good eater, thankfully. Right now, we are on an avocado kick; “acaco” in William speak. He pretty much wants to eat avocado toast for breakfast, lunch and dinner. For breakfast, he usually eats avocado toast or almond butter toast with an apple or banana. For lunch, he is loving turkey – so we typically have a turkey and avocado sandwich for him, plus some fruit and carrots or peas. For dinner, he pretty much eats what we eat; although his favorite thing to eat for dinner is fish. When introducing a new food, I keep putting it in front of him until he tries it and eventually he may/may not like it. We do a lot of grilled chicken, he loves taco night, and if there isn’t time to cook, an Annie’s dairy-free burrito always hits the spot. I try to offer veggies (at night it’s typically in the form of Dr. Praeger’s). Some nights he’ll eat them all – others he won’t even touch them!
Where is your phone case from?
So many of you were wondering about the phone case in this Insta. It’s a little confusing, but to get the shadow text customization – select the color/type of phone case you want, then on the left side of the screen under which font do you want, click shadow text. Then you can play with the colors, etc. before deciding! Hope this helps!
Where are William and Henry’s pom pom hats from? What sizes are they wearing?
Anytime we post Insta stories of the boys in their hats, so many of you want to know where they’re from. Aren’t they the cutest?! They are a handmade knit hat and come in different color ways for boy/girls. Henry is in 0/6 month and William is in 2/6 year. They also have scarves to match the hats!
Where do you get your hair cut?
Katherine goes to Tanisha at Dear Clark, Stia goes to Whitney at FORM and Jean sees Ashtyn at FORM for cuts and Tiffany at Salon 5014 for color.
Stia, what are some practical things you wear around the house with a young baby that is not jeans and a sweater?
Comfort is key when we are at home. In the winter, I’ve been living in these nursing tanks (Henry still wants to nurse all the time) and some lounge pants (this striped pair and this grey pair have been in heavy rotation). I’ll throw on a cardigan to keep cozy – but also so that Henry has easy access. I tend to wear workout clothes around the house a lot more now that I’ve started BBG. I love the Zella high waisted pants. They are so comfy!
How did you deal with the (early) 4 month sleep regression?
You guys, this has been brutal. Henry started regressing right around Christmas and it has been so rough! I would say though, that in the past two nights I feel like I’m seeing light at the end of the tunnel ie: 6 hour stretches! We tried swaddle/no swaddle, Merlin sleep suit, moving him out of our room…. At the end of the day, I am still nursing him to sleep – we tried a lot and I can’t say that anything “worked”- just that he moved past it. Ugh. I was asleep on my feet and ready to lose it at a moment’s notice. Sleep regression is real and it’s a bear. Hoping all you other mommas are moving past it, too!
We love you all so much and our hope is that we bring you some joy, encouragement and inspiration while we write bishop&holland!
Cheers,
Stia, Jean and Katherine
