September 14, 2021

Our Henry is 4 and he is loving it. We’ve seen him grow up and reach a new level of maturity right before our very eyes. He is so much fun, always up for playing or cuddling, making us laugh and coming up with the best make believe games.

We celebrated him over the weekend with a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle birthday party and he had the best time. I’ll share more next week with all the details from his party! Happy Birthday Henry – we love you SO much!

PS: Henry’s three year update, two year update, 18 month update, 15 month update, 12 month update, 9 month update, 6 month update and 3 month update.

PPS: Here is his third birthday, second birthday party, first birthday party, sip & see, baby dedication and birth story.

Height/Weight

At Henry’s four year check up, he measured 75% for height (41.5 inches) and 50% for weight (35 pounds).

Personality

Henry continues to be very strong-willed and independent. He has really started to do everything on his own. He has the best sense of humor and is always making us laugh. He’s very competitive, loves babies and caring for his little brother. Henry looks up to William so much and wants to do whatever William is doing.

Henry has really started being interested in what he’s going to wear for the day and wants to put his own outfits together. He has very strong opinions about his wardrobe! He’s able to get himself fully dressed and loves the independence of doing so. He’s a mama’s boy and likes being at home just hanging out playing. His imagination is incredible and I love watching him busy at make believe and imaginary play. His vocabulary is amazing and expanding every day. We are always so surprised to hear the words that he uses to communicate!

He is so into music and we have a playlist just for him. He’s always singing and dancing in the car. That’s actually where his love for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles came from – he heard the song and became obsessed!

Eating

His tastes haven’t changed much in a year! He still loves almond butter toast, yogurt, and spaghetti. He is becoming more adventorous in trying new foods and I love that about him! He either likes it or doesn’t and he knows fairly quickly! He loves helping me make smoothies in the mornings and is such a good helper in the kitchen too. He also has a very big sweet tooth 🙂

Schedule

He and William share a room and they are both waking up fairly early, around 6:45, so William can get ready for school. We eat lunch around 12 and then bed at 7:30. Henry dropped his nap in January, so he goes to bed earlier now.

Activities

Henry is in his third year at pre-school. He’s going two times a week and he loves it. We did swim lessons at the beginning of the summer and he has become such a good swimmer- he never wants to get out of the water! He and William are currently taking a karate class together and having so much fun. He is starting to express interest in soccer, so we may get him on a team in the Spring.

Must-Have Items For Four Year-Olds

  • Balance bike: He’s had this balance bike for awhile and he is really getting the hang of it! He’s about ready to move on to a pedal bike
  • Scooter: His scooter is still his favorite – always trying to scooter anywhere/everywhere!
  • Personalized stool: This stool is so helpful when Henry is helping me in the kitchen and also when washing hands/brushing teeth.
  • Toys: Magnatiles, Paw Patrol Adventure City, Monster Trucks , Hot Wheels, Building, Play Doh/Sensory Kits anything involving a remote control car
  • He lives in these shorts and polos – so soft and comfy and they look cute!

Cheers,

Stia, Jean and Katherine

Henry’s Pool Party

September 22, 2020

We had decided, starting with William, that we wouldn’t do big parties for turning three. But considering the circumstances we’re in, we couldn’t say no when Henry asked for a few of his close friends to swim at Gigi’s house to celebrate. We decided to go with it and it was such a fun special day celebrating him. His favorite color is orange and he wanted an all “orange” party. We tried our best, but we found it a little hard to find non-pumpkin orange decor in September!

Henry’s third birthday fell on the Tuesday after Labor Day, so we decided to do a swim party on Labor Day in the afternoon. The weather was perfect and he couldn’t have been more excited! Our family surprised him with a group gift before the party; a ride-on car. He was in shock and so thrilled. He is a pretty wild, but actually very good driver. We were all impressed with his driving skills! Henry’s friends joined us a little later for swimming, pizza, cake and more swimming. It was such a fun time celebrating our Henry- we’re so glad we did it!

Happy 3rd Birthday, Henry!

September 8, 2020

mom with toddler boy by pool with henry sign and balloons

Today, we celebrate Henry’s 3rd birthday! We’ve actually been celebrating all weekend long with our families and some close friends. We had a pool party yesterday – and decorated with loads and loads of orange, his favorite color!

It has been an amazing (and wild!) year. We love looking back and seeing how much Henry has grown and how much he has changed in a year!

Happiest 3rd birthday, Henry!! We love you!!

PS: Henry’s two year update, 18 month update, 15 month update, 12 month update, 9 month update, 6 month update and 3 month update.

PPS: Here is his second birthday party, first birthday party, sip & see, baby dedication and birth story.

Height/Weight

We see our pediatrician later this week, but he is for sure tall and lean!

Personality

Henry is Mr. Independent, very strong willed and so sweet, sometimes all at the same time. He is our family comedian, always entertaining us and making us laugh! He has always been independent, but this year he is so independent. He likes to pick out his clothes, get himself dressed, basically he wants to do anything and everything himself.

He’s always spoken very well for his age and this year he is really showing off a huge vocabulary. He says “that’s wonderful and very interesting” and it makes us laugh coming from an almost 3 year old! He tells the best stories and goes on and on singing all day long. He’s a little talker 🙂

Henry loves playing in anything dirty/gettingmessy/etc. and trucks and cars are his favorite. He is very good at making up games for himself and William – he has a huge imagination! He loves his brothers so much – always wanting to get Ford up in the morning and if I ask him what he wants to do/eat he says, “What did William say?” They are inseperable and having so much time at home together has brought them even closer together – more fighting, too 🙂

// october – henry’s first haircut //

// november – showing off his art work at school //

Eating

Henry definitely prefers smaller meals and snacks vs. sitting down for a meal! I think he would eat greek yogurt with fruit, cacao nibs and flax seed for every meal if I would let him. It’s his favorite! He also loves almond butter sandwhiches, spaghetti, scrambled eggs, pizza, peaches/pears/raspberries/blackberries and puree pouches. He is very adventrous in eating vegetables – loving carrots, peas, corn and edemame. He still loves to eat pouches all day, every day. His current favorite thing is a green smoothie that we get after tennis – it’s mango, pinapple, orange juice, apple, spinach and almond butter. One thing is for sure – he loves chocolate.

Schedule

Henry has been in his big boy bed since last October, but he just recently realized he can get out of bed in the morning when he wakes up. Most mornings he’s in our room around 7:45/8. We have breakfast, play, errands, etc and then lunch and nap around 1:30/2. He wakes up around 4, we have a snack and usually eat dinner around 6. Bedtime has been later with COVID/Summer and he’s typically asleep by 8:30/9.

// december – first time skiing //

// december – henry loves christmas //

Activities

Henry started pre-school last year and he is so excited to start back again in a few weeks. He’ll go two days a week this year. We also started Henry in tennis lessons, but he is not super into it right now. He loves to go, but likes to pick up the balls the best 😉

Really we have few activities scheduled because of COVID!

Big Boy Bed

I got a lot of questions about how we transitioned Henry to his big boy bed. William has twin beds in his room and Henry started to want to sleep in the other bed. Last October, we let the boys share a room for a few nights, but Henry requires a lot more sleep than William and he just wasn’t getting it being in the same room.

After he slept in the twin bed, he wasn’t going back in his crib, so we set up his big boy bed in another bedroom. He was ready and it went really well! He has a queen-size bed, so he felt safe and cozy right away. It also helps to have a big brother who is already in a big bed!

// january – loves finally getting to go to pre-school with william //

// february – all dressed up for church //

Potty Training

This is another area that surprised me. Henry just decided one day he was ready and he did it. We waited with William and it went very smooth and that was the same approach I had with Henry. I assumed we were a few months out, but he started going to the bathroom on his own and that was that! He’s had a few accidents here and there, but we are so proud of him!!

// march – staying busy at home during covid //

// april – loves anything that has to do with messes and trucks 🙂 //

Milestones

  • Henry moved to a big boy bed last October
  • Officially potty trained in July!
  • Gets himself dressed and loves picking out his clothes.
  • He learned to swim last year and this year he is a little fish!
  • Last year was his first year at pre-school

// may – always wanting to hold his baby //

// june – celebrating Ford’s first birthday & looking for another shaved ice //

Must Have Items for Three Year Olds

  • We have spent so much time on this scooter
  • Balance bike – a great way to learn balance before a pedal bike
  • I love watching Henry use his imagination building with magna tiles and mega blocks
  • He loves anything to do with fire trucks and fire fighters- we got him this fire station for his birthday
  • We also got Henry this ride on car for his birthday
  • We use this backpack all the time and this nap mat for school
  • Henry is loving these mess-free coloring books
  • These are Henry’s favorite shorts because he can pull them on/off himself

// july – very proud of the outfit he picked out //

// august – so brave and adventurous in california (and all the time!) //

Cheers,

Stia, Jean and Katherine
