colorful prints for summer

Colorful prints are something that we are all about for summer! Mara Hoffman is a brand that we know we can go to and find fabulous colorful prints. When shopping for a few key pieces for summer, our eyes were naturally drawn to this abstract tribal print (also available in a romper). The bright orange is a great pop of color, and we love the cobalt/purple hues, too. Katherine loves how it goes perfectly with her monogrammed purple clutch! Our favorite part? The open back! It seems to be a common theme in a lot of our spring outfits as evidenced here and here.

When we were in New York for Fashion Week in February, we stopped by one of our favorite stores in SoHo, French Connection, for shopping in-between meetings. Let us try to paint a picutre for you… It is one of the coldest days New York has had in 40 years, and we are trying to look cute, but also stay warm, it was basically impossible! After leaving BareMinerals, we hopped in an Uber to French Connection. Not really sure of where we were – our brains were frozen! – we literally went one block to French Connection. And the icing on the cake is that the fares were 3x the price! So we paid $40 to go one block… #uberfail.

Luckily, when we got to French Connection, the whole store was filled with bright prints, colors & adorable summer dresses, which made the cold weather a little more bearable! One of our favorite dresses was this black and white polka dot dress. Knowing the weather needed to cooperate before we could actually wear the dress, we decided to get it anyway! Last weekend was our first chance to wear it, and we are so glad we got it. It seems we are loving all things polka dot right now!

Never say never! Baring your midriff has been a trend that has come and gone a few times. The last time we remember this being all the rage was when Katherine & Stia were in middle school. After growing out of that trend, they promised themselves they would never wear a shirt that showed their midriff again. But, look where we are today–the crop top is everywhere! We love the look, but in moderation – discreet, but definitely cropped. This Clover Canyon crop top is a great example. It’s cropped, but when worn with a high-waisted skirt like this, there isn’t much skin to be seen. It’s also great with the companion skirt from Clover Canyon. With everything from jeans to pants to shorts & skirts being shown in high-waisted styles, it’s easy to pull off the crop look – even for the most modest fashionista!
