ombré dress

Typically when we visit Southern California, we have to rethink our wardrobe a bit. Texas summers call for as little clothing as possible, while still keeping modesty in mind! It’s almost unbearable wearing jeans in the 100 degree weather + humidity. But in Southern California, it’s usually the opposite. Us Texas girls have a hard time with the cool, ocean air! We usually opt for dresses during the day, but we always will bring along a scarf or lightweight jacket to put on when it gets chilly. Ironically enough, when we visited Southern California last week the temperatures were warmer than Dallas! This ombré dress by Rebecca Taylor was worn for a day spent in one of our favorite cities: La Jolla. We dined at George’s at the Cove, did a little shopping & before heading to dinner in Del Mar with family friends, we walked down to put our toes in the water!

sweet potato salad

Recently, we took the plunge and added a Big Green Egg to our grilling repertoire! We’ve heard from so many people how great the results are whether grilling or smoking or as a pizza oven, so we were excited to try our first meal on it – grilled chicken and burgers. For us, sides are as big of a deal as the main dish. When thinking of sides for this meal, potato salad immediately came to mind, but then sweet potatoes also sounded appealing. We think we found the perfect solution – Sweet Potato Salad! This salad is fresh, healthy & full of flavor – we’ll be making it all summer long.
