Happy New Year! We can’t believe 2013 is behind us – it flew by!  As one year ends and another begins, it’s a great time to reflect on the past and hope for the future. 2013 was a busy & fun year for us: we visited parts of the world that some us had never been to, bought first homes, started new jobs & celebrated the big and the small, always grateful to our the Lord.  And…we started bishop&holland!  It’s been such a whirlwind & a blast since our first post on 9.30.2013.  Thanks to each of your for joining us on this journey. All your support and encouraging words mean so much to us! Stay posted to see what’s in store for b&h in 2014!

bubbly

December 31, 2013

champagne2

In our opinion, nothing says New Year’s Eve quite like popping a bottle of bubbly. Actually, we think popping a bottle of champagne or sparkling wine is a good idea anytime!  Did you know that technically only sparkling wine from the Champagne region in France can be called Champagne? But most of us use the name for anything with bubbles. We love a fine French champagne, but Italian Prosecco, Spanish Cava and California sparkling wine frequently find their way into our menu planning and celebrations. We find that a bubbly wine goes with just about anything & we try to always have a chilled bottle on hand!

Splurge: Dom Perignon, Roederer Cristal, Perrier Jouet Belle Epoque

Celebrate: Piper Heidsieck, Veuve Clicquot Brut, Schramsberg Blanc de Noirs

Save: Mumm Napa Brut Rosé, Sofia Blanc de Blancs, Chandon Brut Classic

Cheers,

pomegranate margaritas

December 27, 2013

Remember our Twist on Thanksgiving post? Well, the pomegranate margaritas were so good, we couldn’t put them down to stop and take a picture! They have just the right amount of  pomegranate flavor without being overly sweet, and enough tequila that you know it’s there.  They are festive, fun, just plain yummy, & a great addition to your holiday cocktail repertoire!

Pomegranate Margarita

1 ounce Cointreau
4 ounces Tequila
3 ounces pomegranate juice
2 ounces lime juice
coarse salt for the rim
lime wedges & pomegranate arils for garnish

Run a lime wedge around the rim of your glass and dip in coarse salt.  In a cocktail shaker, combine cointreau, tequila, pomegranate juice (we like POM), and lime juice.  Fill with ice & shake until the cocktail shaker is quite cold. Fill the glass with ice and pour the margarita over. Garnish with some pomegranate arils and lime wedges. If we are making more than one – and we usually are! – we like to put the margarita ingredients in a pitcher and stir over ice, then pour into the prepared glasses and add garnish. The recipe is easy to double, triple, quadruple…

 Cheers,
