Holiday Tablescape

One of our favorite things about the holidays is getting the whole family together to celebrate. We love to gather around the table and share a yummy home-cooked meal and some good wine to go with it. We often start with a cocktail and a some time to catch up with each other and then move to the dining room for the meal.

Creating a special table is always part of the fun. We love layering placemats and table linens, and coming up with combinations of glassware and flatware. Flowers are always important too! The boys have grown up watching us set the table for these special family times and now William and Henry love to join in and “help” us. It’s so sweet.

tips for hosting a pool party

A couple of weeks ago, we hosted the Poolside Style event at Frontgate at Legacy West. The event was a blast and we enjoyed the whole afternoon – not to mention the beautiful Frontgate space! We were thrilled when Frontgate invited us to host the summer event. During the event we shared our tips for hosting a pool party. Since many of you aren’t from the Dallas area and couldn’t make it to the event, we’re sharing our tips below!

Tips For Hosting a Pool Party

Pick a theme

Picking a theme makes planning the rest of the party a breeze! If you decide to send invitations, either paper or electronic, send invitations that coordinate with your theme to set the mood in advance.

Keep food light and simple

Decide on a menu of finger foods and snacks. It’s so hot in Texas, that most people would rather reach for bites vs a full meal!

Signature Cocktail

Mix up a signature cocktail and present it in cute acrylic glasses or stemware. Adding a cute paper straw and a fruit slice wheel is a festive summery touch!

Use Melamine Plates

There are so many pretty options in melamine or acrylic for serving food and drinks. No need to resort to paper plates and cups!

Rafts/Pool Games

What’s a pool party with out rafts or games? We love this corn hole set that can be used in or out of the pool.

Curate a Playlist

Play your favorite music outside during the party. Coming up with your own playlist for the party adds a really fun vibe.

Shade, please!

More and more people are being careful about sun exposure. Be sure to have seats available in the shade for guests who want to stay out of the sun. Plus, an umbrella creates a great space!

Extra, extra, extras

We’ve all been that guest who forgot something important. Be sure to set aside a sunscreen area and provide extra towels.

Monogram everything

A monogrammed pool towel is a great party favor idea for your guests!

Beat the Heat

Use something other than fresh flowers for the centerpiece. That way you can prep early and not worry about putting flowers out last minute!

outdoor patio refresh

Is there anything better than spending time outside? Our patio is one of the most lived in areas in my home and we utilize the space year-round. Even in the heat of the Texas summer you can find us outside by the pool. Our patio area is not large by any means, but we do have a few separate living spaces. The outdoor grill/kitchen area, the dining area and our favorite space – the outdoor living area. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy a cocktail or a glass of wine and some great conversation. And, with the outdoor fireplace, it’s just as livable during the winter. When Frontgate reached out to us regarding a partnership, we knew the living area would be the place to start our outdoor living refresh.

When starting to plan for the redo, I began by making a wish list with my favorite items and then narrowed it down by what would actually fit in my space. The Grayson collection love seat is a great size for my space and with the lounge chairs from the collection it makes the perfect seating area for my outdoor living room. I added the matching ottoman for a coffee table/seating piece and a side table from the Avon collection. I knew I wanted to go light and bright, so even though there were so many options, choosing my upholstery fabric was easy. Choosing pillows was a lot harder! But blue was the color that attracted me, so that narrowed it down. I added an outdoor rug and some new fun and so comfy floats for the pool and we are loving our new outdoor space! We plan to be spending a lot of time here!
