Positano

September 19, 2023

The second stop on our trip was Positano. We originally were going to stay in Ravello for four nights, but since we had never been to the Amalfi Coast we decided to move to Positano for a night. I’m so glad we did!

Our travel advisor booked a car for us from our hotel in Ravello to Le Sirenuse. We decided to leave right after breakfast so we could fully utilize our short time in Positano. The trip was just over an hour from Ravello to Positano.

Stay

Le Sirenuse is such an iconic hotel and ultimately we decided that’s where we wanted to stay – right in the heart of Positano. It’s built into the cliffs and has the most beautiful views! It has everything you need on property – pool, spa and amazing dining. Not to mention the service was outstanding.

Do

  • Walk around Positano: We did this as soon as we arrived and although it was busy, it’s such a charming place.
  • Boat ride: We spent the rest of our first day on a boat. The hotel does boat trips and it was perfect. We left from the Positano dock just before lunch and enjoyed the breezy day. We stopped to cool off in the water and swim, had some champagne and then the boat dropped us off at Conca del Sogno for lunch. After lunch, the boat picked us up to head back to Positano. We stopped at the “emerald grotto” on the way home and it was beautiful!
  • Pool: On our second morning, we had breakfast, walked around Positano and then relaxed by the pool before our car picked us up to go to Rome.

Eat

  • Breakfast at La Sponda: The hotel has a beautiful breakfast with incredible views. Plus, the breakfast spread is incredible.
  • Conca del Sogno: This is located in Nerano and during our boat trip we stopped here for lunch. We loved it. It’s only accessible by boat and it’s such a fun and beautiful atmosphere! The whole setting was out of a movie. After lunch, you can swim at the private beach. Highly recommend!
  • Aldo’s: This is the champagne and seafood restaurant at Le Sirenuse. Like I said, the views from Le Sirenuse are incredible and Aldo’s views were just the same. We ate seafood, drank spritz’s and enjoyed being on a beautiful terrace as the sun set on a beautiful city. We were torn about dining at La Sponda vs a more casual place after being out on the boat all day, but we were so happy with our decision!
  • There are SO many restaurants that were recommended to us, but we just didn’t have time to try. Next time!

Ravello

September 12, 2023

Our first stop on our trip to Italy was Ravello. It was the perfect place to kick off our trip – it was absolutely stunning and equally as relaxing! We were tired from the flight and journey to get there, but were so happy we chose to start in Ravello. It gave us time to get acclimated to the time zone and it’s just a very low-key, more quiet town than the stops on the rest of our trip.

Ravello is located on the Amalfi coast, but it sits at the top of the mountain and the views are breathtaking! We felt like we were in a dream the whole time we were there. Words are hard to find to describe this place – its truly better than we could have imagined!

We hired Next Exit Travels to help with our trip since we started planning it just 1.5 months before we went. She helped with airport transfers/transfers between hotels/trains/reservations/excursions. We had never worked with a travel agent before and we just kept saying how seamless she made everything!

Stay

We stayed at Palazzo Avino and absolutely loved our stay. The hotel is known as the “Pink Palace” and it lives up to its name! Everything is picture perfect here. We stayed for three nights and on our first day we just stayed at the hotel pool. It was quite literally the perfect way to start our Italy trip – Caleb had an Aperol spritz and I had a Bellini and we just read and relaxed before dinner. The grounds of the hotel were perfect and we loved everything about it.

Eat

  • Breakfast was included in with the room rate and we loved waking up and then walking down to breakfast. They have a full breakfast buffet every morning.
  • Cumpa Cosimo: Located in Ravello, this was such a charming, family run restaurant and we loved it. This was a more casual meal and one of our favorites.
  • We ate lunch at the Beach Club each day – more on that below.
  • Ristorante Belvedere : This was located at the Belmond, which is right next door to Palazzo Avino. We got there early for drinks and appetizers at the hotel bar. They had live music and the views can’t be beat! The restaurant feels like you are eating in the clouds – it was such a fun and memorable dinner for us.
  • Terrezza Belvedere: We originally were going to Rossellini’s for our third night, but we decided to do something more casual that night. It also has views and the food was great! We pretty much ate fish and pasta for every meal.
  • Lobster & Martini Bar: Palazzo Avino has a lobster & martini bar that is on the terrace level. We loved sitting here, taking in the views, listening to live music and enjoying a martini!

Do

  • Beach Club: One of the main reasons we decided to stay at Palazzo Avino is because the hotel has a beach club that is a 20 minute drive from Ravello to the beach in Amalfi. We spent most of our days in Ravello at the Beach Club. The hotel provides transportation to/from the beach club and its for hotel guests only. Because it’s built into the cliffs, there are different levels. When you get there, you walk into the restaurant/bathrooms/changing rooms level, the next level is a pool and lounges, and the bottom level has about twelve lounges with direct access to the water. We spent each day on the bottom level – jumping in the water when we wanted to cool off, reading, drinking spritzes and enjoying the amazing views
  • Explore Ravello: Ravello is such a charming town. The walk to the square is just a few minutes from Palazzo Avino. We ate dinner there one night and explored all the shops. The streets are all cobblestone and tiny!
  • There are a lot of other things to do – if only we had more time!

Cheers,

Costa Rica

Earlier this spring, Caleb and I had the opportunity to visit Costa Rica and we loved it! It’s such a unique place – great for relaxation and adventuring. We did a little bit of both on our trip! It is a 4 hour direct flight from DFW to Liberia and once you land, it’s less than an hour to the Peninsula Papagayo!

Where to Stay

We stayed at Four Seasons Peninsula Papagayo. It is stunning! The whole resort is built into the natural landscape and it is beautiful! Our room had a huge balcony overlooking the ocean. It was close to the pool and the restaurants, which we loved. There is so much to do at the resort and they will also book off site excursions.

What to Do

  • Enjoy the pools/beaches – the resort has two pools and two beaches on either side of the peninsula. We did the pool and beach every day!
  • Golf: Caleb golfed a few times and said the golf course was beautiful. He teed off early because it gets very hot and humid. He actually had a run in with a few monkeys!
  • Tennis: The tennis courts are located near the golf course and one morning we did a tennis clinic. It was hot, so go as early as possible!
  • Spa: The spa at the hotel is incredible! There is an outdoor hot/cold plunge and it overlooks the ocean. I had two incredible treatments here – a massage and a facial!
  • Excursions: We did a boat day – we went snorkeling and visited another beach. It was a great way to see the area! We saw a lot of star fish and a small octopus while snorkeling. The hotel will also book excursions to see waterfalls, go ziplining, etc.
  • Nature Walk: Peninsula Papagayo is so hilly and beautiful – we walked around the area most days and it such a great work out with amazing views.
  • Yoga: They have daily yoga classes either on the beach or at the gym overlooking the beach.

Where to Eat

  • Bahia: This is the open air, casual dining option. We ate breakfast here and enjoyed delicious Costa Rican coffee here each morning.
  • For lunch, we ate by the pool – they had a great menu to choose from.
  • Nemare: This is the steakhouse and is located near the golf course. The resort has a shuttle that will take you there.
  • Pesce: This is an Italian restaurant and it was great!
  • Añejo: Our favorite spot – we got margaritas here every night and they had the best sushi!

What to Wear

Light breezy dresses, swimsuits and workout wear! It’s a very active place, but hot and humid!

Cheers,

Stia, Jean and Katherine
