Mahj Retreat

March 26, 2024

// mark your mahjong line marker //

A few years ago, I started to play Mahjong with a group of moms in my area. We all learned together and continue to play once a month. But, it’s never enough time to play! We decided to book a girl’s trip to Seaside, where we could rest, relax and play as much mahjong as possible!

Besides playing mahjong, here’s what we did:

Where We Ate

  • Turbo Coffee: Coffee here every morning
  • Bud & Alleys: We ate upstairs here and had the most amazing views and sunny day!
  • Gallion’s: We had lunch here one day after we went to the spa – you must try the fish tacos!
  • The Citizen: Dinner was here our fist night – highly recommend arranging transportation home prior!
  • Private chef: We booked a private chef for dinner one night – he did sushi for appetizers, salad, surf&turf and dessert.

What We Did

  • Beach walks
  • Shopping in Seaside and Rosemary
  • Massages at Vivo
  • Played a ton of mahjong!

What to Wear:

It was a great, quick getaway and nice to be together with out the busyness of home!

Cheers,

Stia, Jean and Katherine

Birthday Staycation at Omni PGA Frisco Resort

January 30, 2024

William turned 8 (!!!) earlier this month! I love that he likes to celebrate his birthdays with experiences. We started it last year when he got to pick out any Lego set he wanted (he chose the Titanic) and we spent the night at a hotel working away on it!

This year, he decided on a staycation at the recently opened Omni PGA Frisco Resort. He loves golf and this resort has everything for the golf lover. With a January birthday, the weather can be a little tricky, but the resort has a great variety of outdoor and indoor activities.

It was a quick 25 minute drive to the resort and as soon as we arrived we got started on our fun staycation. An arctic freeze blew through while we were there with snow and icy temperatures, but it made the stay that much more memorable! With that being said, this is a comprehensive list of what we did in the winter. Now we will have to go back and see all that the resort has to offer in the warmer months!

Stay:

The Omni PGA Frisco Resort just opened in May of 2023. It’s a beautiful resort and everything you need is right there! We had a one bedroom suite and it was beautiful! It had a spacious living area with a pull-out sofa, the most amazing views of the golf course, a huge bathroom with a stand-alone tub and a large balcony with rocking chairs. We were there during the arctic temps/freeze, when everything in Dallas seemed to shut-down, and the service at the resort remained top notch. The staff made sure we had everything we needed and more!

Eat:

  • Lounge by Topgolf: While the boys were playing on the simulators, we ordered an assortment of appetizers for lunch and were very impressed with the food! It was delicious and had something for everyone in our family.
  • Ice house: We had dinner here – it’s very casual, BBQ style dining. William loved it and it has a great outdoor space right in the middle of the golf area!
  • Toast and Tee: This is the coffee shop in the hotel and we grabbed breakfast here the next morning.
  • The Apron: This is more casual dining. We stopped in for some homemade ice cream.
  • Margaret’s Cones and Cups: William had ice cream here after we played The Swing and he said “it was the best ice cream ever”.
  • Other restaurants: Trick Rider is the steakhouse at the resort, but it’s closed on Sundays (the night we stayed). We are planning to go back and try it!

Do:

  • The Swing: This was a highlight for all three of us! It’s the ten hole, par 3 course and it was such a blast. I’m not a “golfer” but I played all ten holes and we had a lot of friendly competitions. Halfway through the course there is an old truck that has been refurbished as “The Swing Bar”. They have margaritas and beer on tap, plus snacks.
  • Simulators: For some indoor fun we rented a couple of simulators at the Lounge by Topgolf. I loved having this option given the weather and it was fun for all ages! We had golf on one simulator, but then you could also choose from Zombie dodgeball (a hit with my boys), soccer, baseball, etc and we switched up the games on the other simulator. I can imagine it’s a busy place in the heat of the summer, too!
  • Topgolf bays: This is located in the Ice House. They are indoor bays, but you use the Topgolf software to play games and hit into the driving range. It started snowing while we were there, which was magical! We moved inside when it got too cold and had a delicious dinner.
  • Warmer weather activities: If you take a look at the Omni PGA Frisco Resort website, you can see all the activities available! With the pool, spa, golf, outdoor movies, a St. Bernard (one of my favorite Dallas stores) pop-up and even more shopping – you will need to book another night!

Cheers,

Stia, Jean and Katherine

Family Ski Trip in Jackson Hole

January 23, 2024

Our second time visiting Jackson Hole for a family ski trip was every bit as magical as the first! We were so excited to be there. There is something about landing in Jackson Hole, surrounded by the beautiful Tetons that just gets the trip started off right!

Stay

Four Seasons Jackson Hole is in the perfect spot at the base of the Teton Mountains, where there is everything you need for skiing! There is an on-site ski concierge where we got set up with everything we needed, ski school is a short walk away and with the resort located slope side, we could watch Caleb and the boys skiing down when we were taking a break. With its easy ski in/ski out access Four Seasons Jackson Hole is the best place for a family ski trip. It’s beautiful, the service is wonderful and you could be perfectly happy not leaving the whole time you are there! My family of five had a one bedroom valley view suite and it was the perfect set-up for us. The kids loved the kid-sized tent and the fun treats in the evenings. My parents had a mountain view room with the most beautiful views of the Tetons.

Eat

  • Hatch: As soon as we landed, we ate lunch here in town and it was delicious! Highly recommend for brunch/lunch
  • Calico: We ate here last year and loved it just as much this year. It’s closer to Teton Village and they make the best Italian dishes.
  • Handle Bar: This is the restaurant at the base of the lifts and our favorite lunch spot. Think pub food and you can not miss the frickles or mustache pretzel! It’s the perfect spot to watch the skiers coming down the mountain.
  • Il Villaggio Osteria: A great place to order to-go pizzas and have a movie night in the room!
  • Westbank Grill: This upscale steak house has the best views and best food. This was our second time dining here and it did not disappoint! It’s a must-do.
  • Ascent: We ate here our last night and highly recommend this Pan-Asian restaurant.

Do

  • Million Dollar Cowboy: You must grab a drink at this famous bar
  • Ski: World class skiing and everything is so convenient – ski-in/ski-out and rentals available at the hotel
  • Spa: My mom and I skipped one day of skiing and instead opted for the spa – such a good decision! We both said it was one of the best treatments we’ve ever had.
  • Hot tub: This was a fun highlight. After skiing all day we would head to the hot tub with the boys and relax there in the warm water with snow falling around us. Magical!
  • Other excursions: There are so many winter/summer excursions that you can book through the hotel. We go mainly to ski, but there is a wide variety of activities if skiing is not your thing!

What to Pack

Cheers,

Stia, Jean and Katherine
