top ten things to do at four seasons scottsdale

|the casitas on property|

Over Mother’s Day weekend, we headed to one of our favorite destinations, Four Seasons Resort in Scottsdale. It was our third time visiting the property and each time we love it even more (if that’s even possible!). It is one of the most peaceful places we’ve been. Each casita feels so private, but it’s a quick walk or golf cart ride to the pool/restaurants/spa. There are so many great golf courses nearby to keep our husbands happy too. It’s one of our favorite places to relax (we never want to leave!), so we wanted to share our top ten things to do at Four Seasons Scottsdale!

Top Ten Things to do at Four Seasons Scottsdale

  1. Spa Day: The three of us girls relaxed with spa treatments over the weekend. Jean and Katherine had the best facials with the most amazing head, neck, and arm massage and Stia enjoyed a maternity massage, which they allow you to lay flat on your stomach into a body pillow. So amazing! We were on cloud nine afterwards.
  2. Golf at Troon North: This is always a must for our husbands. They only played once over the long weekend, but they always enjoy the course. The hotel provides shuttles to the course and will have your bags dropped off and picked up. We’ve met them out on the course a few times and we always enjoy seeing the wildlife and the beautiful desert backdrop!

  3. Breakfast at Proof: The mornings at FS Scottsdale are so peaceful. We always tend to wake up early when vacationing on the west coast, so each morning we headed to Proof bright and early. Proof is an “American Canteen” that sources local comfort food. It’s open for breakfast, lunch and dinner (all of which are so good!), but our favorite time of day is breakfast. It’s so nice sitting on the patio, having a leisurely breakfast and enjoying the cool desert air. Our husbands always get the buffet, which is incredible. The girls love the egg white frittata or the acai bowl. We can sit on that patio and drink the yummy coffee for hours! There are also great selections of cocktails for brunch- the Bloody Mary is amazing!

  4. Rent a poolside cabana: On Sunday, we spent the day in a luxury poolside cabana. The luxury cabana was the perfect way to relax on Mother’s Day. We arrived following our spa treatments and had such a great time just relaxing and playing with William. The cabana is completely equipped with a stocked mini fridge, snacks and a big screen TV. A selection of sunscreen and other sun products is also included and a butler is there to make sure you don’t lift a finger! He brought a fruit tray late in the morning and cocktails and appetizers in the afternoon. The weather was already getting pretty warm when we were there, so it was nice to have a completely shaded place for William to eat and relax while he wasn’t in the pool. What a perfect way to spend Mother’s Day- or any day for that matter!

  5. Dinner at Talavera: Our meals at Talavera are always a favorite memory. The staff at Talavera always take great care of us. We pretty much let our waiter take the lead on ordering appetizers, meals and desserts and we were so glad because he had some amazing recommendations. For appetizers, the favorites were the beef carpaccio, the foie gras banh mi and the octopus. For dinner, our husbands loved the steak and we girls decided on seafood – shrimp and salmon! Our waiter also paired wines for each of us (except Stia, of course) to complement our meals. He did a great job! For dessert, the chocolate soufflé is a must and also the cloud cheesecake. You definitely need to treat yourself to dinner here.

  6. Hike Pinnacle Peak: Only a mile from the resort, Pinnacle Peak is a 3.5 mile roundtrip hike with spectacular views.
  7. Catch a Yoga class in the courtyard: There are various fitness classes offered on different days of the week. Try something new!
  8. Cocktails on your patio: Each casita has a private patio with views of the resort or the mountains. The outdoor furniture is so comfortable and we have made it a tradition to enjoy a cocktail (or two) on the patio before heading to dinner!
  9. Get the AZ Mai Tai: We tried this iconic pineapple drink on our first trip to Scottsdale and had to get it again. This time it was a virgin Mai Tai and William loved drinking the fruit juice and eating the fruit off the top, while relaxing in a kid’s lounge – he sure has the life! 😉

  10. Relax: This is so easy to do at Four Seasons Scottsdale. If you don’t even feel like expending the energy to walk to dinner, one of the resort’s golf carts will pick you up and deliver you to Talavera or Proof. They are also perfectly happy to come and take your kids for golf cart rides, if they are obsessed with them like William!

    |William loved all the options on the kid’s menu- and kids under four eat free!|

A few notes on traveling to FS Scottsdale with kids:

  • Kids under four eat for free. This is an amazing thing for us parents of toddlers. Sometimes William will eat whatever we put in front of him, sometimes he won’t take a bite. It’s so nice to know we can order “risk free” 🙂
  • Kids camp: For kids 5 years and older, there is a a Kids Camp with so many fun complimentary activities that kids love.
  • We used the Four Seasons Concierge to help find a babysitter for Saturday night. We were so happy with their recommendation. William was immediately comfortable with her and we enjoyed a relaxing evening at Talavera. We met some other parents who have the sitter come for nap time so they can enjoy the pool kid-free for a few hours. We’ll definitely do that next time!
  • FS Scottsdale made our stay with William so enjoyable. They thought of everything. From greeting him with a cute little stuffed animal to baby-proofing our room for us, we didn’t have to worry about a thing. When we requested a crib, they also brought a bib, Honest baby products and kid friendly snacks. So easy for us!

Thank you Four Seasons Scottsdale for partnering with us to bring you this post!

Cheers,

Stia, Jean & Katherine

four seasons scottsdale

July 13, 2015

four seasons scottsdale, desert getaway, couples getaway

Over the Fourth of July, Caleb and I spent a long weekend at the Four Seasons in Scottsdale, Arizona.  It is one of our favorite places to visit, you can see pictures from our trip last year here.  The desert is so beautiful and we love any chance to get away, especially before Baby Coffman arrives!  After two trips to Four Seasons Scottsdale, we can’t imagine staying anywhere else.  Four Seasons Scottsdale is giving away a stay! To enter, Instagram a picture of your favorite summer moment with the hashtag #FSGold.  Winner will be chosen by Four Seasons Scottsdale and prize includes a two-night stay, daily breakfast for four, dinner at Proof for four and a 60-minute photo shoot with Flytographer!

Stay:

  • Four Seasons Scottsdale: This is one of our favorite resorts.  A quick 30 minute  drive from the airport, the resort has beautiful mountain peaks and so much natural wildlife surrounding it.  Each room is actually a casita with beautiful patios that overlook the mountains or pool.  We thoroughly enjoyed starting our day and ending our day at that exact spot!

Eat:

  • Talavera: One of the top steakhouses in Scottsdale, Talevera is on-site at Four Seasons Scottsdale.  We ate dinner there on Fourth of July and the views were incredible, along with the food.  A few of our recommendations: For starters we highly recommend the soft shell crab and asparagus risotto.  The salmon was a new addition to the entree menu and was delicious.  For sides, you can’t go wrong with Arizona vegetables, and the lobster mac n’ cheese is to die for!  Oh, and have the sommelier pair wine for your meal!
  • Proof Restaurant: Proof is a casual restaurant at the Four Seasons and offers breakfast, lunch and dinner.  We always love to go to Proof for breakfast because it has the best breakfast buffet ever.  The coffee is also incredible and they make the best juevos rancheros and oatmeal you’ll ever have!  Proof also has great dinner options, too.  On Friday nights during the summer, they have a BBQ with live music.  Caleb ordered the BBQ while we were there and I had an amazing Super Food salad.  Other items worth trying: pretzel knots, hand cut fries and homemade ice cream, which I may have indulged in too often!
  • Saguaro Blossom: Most afternoons you could find us out lounging by the pool!  The poolside restaurant, Saguaro Blossom, is perfect for those days you can’t get off your lounge for lunch.  We enjoyed a few meals in the cabanas and highly recommend: carne asada nachos (ask for jalapeños on top), and the cilantro jalapeño hummus which we became addicted to last year.  If you are looking for a tropical drink, you can’t go wrong with the AZ Mai Tai, served in a pineapple! This year, I had to get a virgin Mai Tai, but it was still delicious!

Do:

  • Pool: We spent most of our days here.  There is an adult pool, where we spent most of our time, and a kid’s pool, where we will be spending a lot more time next year! This pool is one of the most relaxing places to be.  Scottsdale is a hot place to be in the summer, but the pool staff try to minimize that for you!  They bring ice cold towels, fruit skewers, gummy bears, frozen grapes, samples of drinks from Saguaro Blossom. They even come around and give your sunglasses a cleaning! We felt so pampered, we didn’t want to leave!  Pool cabanas are available for daily rental and we definitely recommend in the heat of the summer!
  • Hike Pinnacle Peak: Many views from the resort are of Pinnacle Peak.  The peak is within walking distance of Four Seasons Scottsdale and is fun for all ages.  We hiked to the peak, but you can also keep hiking to another mountain.  This takes only an hour of the day, and we highly recommend it, but do it early in the morning!
  • Spa: Visiting the resort spa is usually on our list of must do’s while vacationing.  But it is always hard to decide on one treatment!  Four Seasons Scottsdale offers a Summer Happy Hour at the spa, where you can pick 2-3 mini treatments instead of just one treatment.  I had my first maternity massage (which will be hard to beat!) and an exfoliating body polish!
  • Golf at Troon North: I have accompanied Caleb on many golf outings, but this is still my favorite course.  The desert views are beautiful, and there is so much wildlife!  The resort offers a complimentary shuttle to the course, which is convenient if you don’t have a rental car!

Relaxation is a big part of what we look for in a summer vacation.  Pool, spa, golf & dining seem to keep everyone in the family happy!  Our perfect solution – the Four Seasons Scottsdale, where there is ample opportunity for pool & spa time, but also very close proximity to numerous world-class golf courses.  Just north of Scottsdale, the Four Seasons backs up to Pinnacle Peak and the views are incredible from all over the resort.

While the guys spent their days golfing, we spent our days taking yogalates & enjoying spa treatments, brunching at Proof, hiking Pinnacle Peak & of course spending the majority of our time by the pool.  There is a quiet adult-only pool, and also a family pool with water toys & games for the kids.  So whether you’re traveling as a couple or as a family, the Four Seasons is a great option, and a bonus for families – the Kids Club is free!

After our visit, we can’t imagine who wouldn’t want to getaway to the Four Seasons Scottsdale?!  We’re so excited to partner with the resort to offer a two night stay, dinner for two & two 50 minute massages!  It truly is the perfect place for a relaxing weekend.  Here are our “musts”, the things you don’t want to miss while at the resort:

  • Dinner at Talavera– the Ahi Tuna Tartare, Wagyu Short Rib Ravioli & Chilean Sea Bass are to die for, and be sure to discuss wine pairings with Shaun, the sommelier, he is a wealth of information

We loved the Southwestern elegance of the resort as soon as we walked through the  lobby doors. The indoor and outdoor lobbies are decorated in great bright prints and combinations of colors and fabrics – Southwest with a fun twist – we swooned!

The grounds are beautiful, filled with bright pops of color from flowering cacti and cascading bougainvillea.

The resort consists of  ‘casitas’ which allow for privacy & balconies with a view from every room.  A great place to have a quiet moment and reflect on God’s creation.

The perfect welcome – sangria & prosecco!

We hiked Pinnacle Peak our first morning at the resort before hitting the pool!  Thankfully the temperatures were cooler than normal, because we didn’t get the early start that is recommended during the summer months.  It was a great hike – straight out of the lobby, to the trail head, and up the mountain!

Pool time!  Cabanas, misters and a pool boy to clean your sunglasses – what more can you ask for?!  We settled in with some of our Summer Reading List and a cold cocktail from poolside Saguaro Blossom.  The AZ Mai Tai wins points for presentation alone & tastes even better than it looks!

We enjoyed the comlimentary wine tasting in the afternoon at Talavera.  It’s a great break from all the relaxing at the pool!

We had a fantastic dinner in the beautiful wine room at Talavera!  Chef Mel takes a whole new spin on “surf & turf” throughout the menu with a strong emphasis on local purveyors.  Fabulous food, perfect wine pairings & an atmosphere to die for.  We loved it.

Breakfast/brunch at Proof is great!  With so many menu options, from the Huevos Rancheros to the Egg White Frittata, there were choices for everyone in our group.  The brewed coffee from local Press Coffee Roasters was so delicious – not to mention the Grapefruit Mimosa & Proof Bloody Mary!

We loved having the luxury cabana for a day!  We watched the Wimbledon’s Mens Final and, like every day, we were treated like royalty by the Four Seasons staff.  The menu selections we had poolside lived up to the Four Seasons standards.  Our favorites were the Cilantro Jalapeño Hummus & Grilled Mexican Prawns, but everything we tried was delicious!

DSC_0381

It wouldn’t be right if we didn’t show you what our guys did a lot while we were in Scottsdale!  The resort is affiliated with the Troon North Golf Club just up the street and it gets rave reviews from the golfers in our family.

The resort is stunning at night!

Our last poolside margarita!  It was so hard to pull ourselves away from the pool to pack and leave. Thanks for having us Four Seasons Scottsdale – we can’t wait to come back!
