Walmart Online Pickup & Delivery

September 15, 2020

mom holding baby while making pre-school lunches

It’s officially been six months since the last time I packed a school lunch for the boys. With school starting this week (eek!), it’s that time again. Over the past six months of staying at home, one of the major lifestyle changes we’ve made is doing our grocery shopping with Walmart Online Pickup and Delivery. We used to think that the shoppers wouldn’t pick out the best produce or we wouldn’t be able to get our favorite products, but our experience has been that the produce we receive is better than what we used to see in store and we can get all of our favorite organic products and snacks for the boys. But one of the best advantages to utilizing Walmart Online Pickup & Delivery is that it saves so much time and energy – and I need all the extra time and energy I can get!

The boys’ preschool is pretty strict on bringing healthy foods and we love that. I try to pack a colorful lunch that I know will give them lots of energy for playing and learning. I make my shopping list online via Walmart Online Pickup & Delivery (saving favorites that we buy a lot) and have the time and focus to make sure that everything I need is there before ordering. I love that Walmart Online Delivery windows are an hour long, so you know exactly when to expect your order.

There is a minimum order of $35 and a slight charge for delivery, but the products are all the same price as you would pay in store and, in the scheme of things, the delivery fee is nothing compared to the stress of shopping with three boys.

I always try to pack their lunches and snacks the night before school. Our mornings are always a little crazy and having one less thing to do can make a huge difference in how we start our day. Here’s what I’m packing in the boys’ lunches this week:

  • almond butter sandwich: we love dave’s killer bread around here and the boys eat almond butter almost every day! Plus, it’s so easy to make and stays fresh overnight in the fridge
  • fruit: the boys are loving strawberries so we are getting our fill while they are in season
  • pouches: the boys love these mango pouches and I love that they don’t taste the spinach in them – win/win
  • veggies: I quarter raw carrots and the boys love eating them for a crunchy snack.
  • cheddar bunnies: This is the thing they look forward to every day at lunch 🙂
  • yogis: For snack, I’ll pack the boys some fruit and they love yogis as special treat

We can find all of this and so much more using Walmart Online Pickup and Delivery service!

Our Favorite Summer Cocktail

June 23, 2020

tips for hosting a pool party

Happy Summer! We are living for these summer pool days, that turn into evenings and then enjoying our favorite cocktail by the pool before dinner.

While we have been trying a lot of different cocktails so far this season, one of our all time favorites is this Rum Grapefruit Cooler that we’ve been making for years. We found the recipe in “Gourmet’s Parties” cookbook that focused on dining and entertaining and we’ve been making it every summer since. Having fresh mint growing in the garden makes this so easy to put together on a whim and the dash of Angostura bitters to top it off adds a a really special flavor- don’t skip that step :)

Rum Grapefruit Cooler Recipe

*Serves 2

  • 4 mint springs
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 2/3 cup fresh squeezed grapefruit
  • 1.5 tbsp fresh squeezed lime juice
  • 3 ounces light rum
  • Grapefruit flavored sparkling water (we use Waterloo)
  • Angostura bitters
  1. Muddle sugar, juices and mint leaves in the bottom of a cocktail shaker.
  2. Add rum and 1 cup of ice.
  3. Shake about 30 seconds.
  4. Strain into two glasses full of ice.
  5. Top with sparkling water and bitters.
  6. Garnish with mint sprig and enjoy!

Cheers,

How to Build a Charcuterie Board in 5 Easy Steps

Back in September, we had Ford’s Sip & See. It was a couples party that was to held from 5pm – 7pm. Because of the timing, we decided that a very large charcuterie board selection would be perfect for the occasion. It was a huge spread on the dining room table and everyone enjoyed it throughout the evening. With Spring comes more opportunities for parties – we have four family birthdays in March/April, Easter, and Mother’s Day. Not to mention it’s fun to do for a get together with couples or girlfriends!

Bigger is Better

When we’re planning a party around a charcuterie board, we like to make a big statement, preferably taking up nearly the length of our dining table. This can be done using two or three very large boards, or making use of as many smaller boards as needed to fill the table.

Get Creative with the Bread

Don’t just use your typical crackers, such as water crackers. Use them, but also little pre-made toasts, fig biscuits, breadsticks and sliced baguette. They will each add a little something different to whatever is eaten with them.

Add a Pop of Color

Adding a pop of color can be a little challenging, especially in the winter months when pretty, fresh fruit isn’t as available. One of our favorite ways to add color in the winter months is with dried cherries and dried cranberries. Plus, they are so yummy! Fresh herbs are another good way to add some color and visual interest.

Variety, Variety, Variety…

Be sure to use a large variety of cheese and meat. Always have a hard cheese, such as manchego, a soft cheese ( a goat cheese is a good option), a blue cheese, and include a cheddar or a cheese that anyone and everyone is sure to like. For the meat selections a nice variety would be a paté (paté de campagne is our favorite), salami, sausage and prosciutto. Try rolling some of the sliced meats to add some depth.

More is More

When you think you are done, now is the fun part! Start adding layers of your accoutrements: little bowls of olives, breadsticks standing in small jars and strewn across the boards, sliced baguette, bowls of mustards and fig jam, nuts, clusters of grapes and even some peppers are fun to add.

Most important of all… have fun!

Cheers,

Stia, Jean and Katherine
