spring wardrobe for kids

February 26, 2018

spring wardrobe for kids

Before having boys – I thought the only cute baby clothes were for baby girls! It didn’t take long to realize that dressing my boys in traditional clothing was just as sweet as the precious little bloomer sets for baby girls. Here are a few places we shop for the boys and some clothes we are loving for them as we head into Spring. There are also cute girl options, too! We also love to find and shop special children’s boutiques, but these are the places we frequent the most for the boys! Would love to hear of a few of your favorite kid’s clothing shops, too!

The Beaufort Bonnet Company

The Beaufort Bonnet Company has the sweetest traditional clothing for kids. We’ve been dressing William and Henry in TBBC from the time they were born and love having two little boys to match in Beaufort Bonnet’s sweet clothes!

Boys: I love little boys in bubbles and TBBC has some of the cutest ones. This striped bubble and this smocked bubble are too sweet. William has pretty much outgrown Jon Jons from here (insert cry face), so we have moved onto the cutest polos with coordinated shorts to go with Henry’s bubbles. The boys both have these striped trunks and these sailboats for swimming this summer. I love these plain white rash guards (they are harder to find than you think!) and so many adorable hats to choose from. They also make the softest coordinating pajamas!

Girls: Oh my goodness, the girls’ clothes are just precious. If you have a girl – this is the sweetest little dress, this bunny set is perfect for Easter festivities and how adorable are these pajamas?! Plus, we love that if you have a boy and a girl – there are so many cute coordinating sibling outfits!

Nordstrom

We head to Nordstrom not only to shop for ourselves, but also for the boys. It’s so nice to have a place where we can pretty much pick up everything at once. A lot of the boys’ play clothes are from here and also their shoes. I love to add a personal touch to some of their plain T’s – Nordstrom will monogram at some locations. And, as a mom of two, I love curbside pick-up!

Boys: A lot of William’s play clothes are from Nordstrom (we love Mini Boden) and we love their little onesies for Henry! Not to mention shoes – our favorite place to buy shoes! Natives, Salt Water sandals, sneakers & moccs – they have everything. PS: Nordstrom now sells crewcuts!

Girls: A strawberry swimsuit that is too cute, we love Kissy Kissy – this garden rose print is adorable, and how precious is this blue and white dress with bloomers?!

Smocked Auctions

You can’t beat the price of the sweetest smocked outfits from Smocked Auctions. Smocked Auctions started as a Facebook online bidding boutique – but you can also shop in-stock items and pre-orders online, too. Dallas moms – Smocked Auctions will be hosting their sample sale this Tuesday from 5:30 – 8:30 pm and again on Wednesday from 9 am – 1 pm and 5:30 – 7:30 pm at the Magnolia Hotel Park Cities (6070 N. Central Expressway). It’s the perfect time to stock up on Spring!

Boys: The boys have these matching seersucker Jon Jon and bubbles, this is Jon Jon is perfect for the puppy lover, and if you’re still looking for an Easter outfit – this Bunny Jon Jon is too cute. PS: They also have the cutest swim trunks for boys!

Girls: This pink bubble with lace sleeves is too sweet, this gingham bubble is adorable and comes in ten colors and this pink check/floral rash guard set is precious!

The Tot

We love to visit the Tot in Dallas. They have the most fun activities for kids, and William loves to play at the Tot Playhouse while we shop. The Tot stands for safe and non-toxic products – that are also stylish. That’s a brand we can get behind 😉 PS: Here are some of our favorite new mom must-haves from the Tot from when Henry was born.

Boys: We just adore this navy and white striped bubble for Henry, this linen bubble is perfect for the warmer weather and how cute is this sweatshirt for an extra layer?!

Girls: A darling little peach swimsuit, the sweetest little top and bloomer set and the cutest play romper in blush pink.

ten things that every gigi needs at her house

January 16, 2018

with henry at 2 weeks old

and william at two weeks

When I first found out I was going to be a grandmother I was beyond thrilled. Being so blessed to live near Stia and Caleb, I anticipated William and Henry spending a lot of time at my home. At least I was hopeful that they would!  Stia and I also do a lot of blog work together while the boys are napping, so she typically brings them over and we play before she puts the boys down for a nap. In order to make it as easy as possible for them to be here, I try to be sure that I have all the things that Stia and the boys need while they are at my house, without her having to haul a ton of stuff – bringing two babies is enough! With William turning two this weekend, I thought it was about time to share things that every Gigi needs at her house!

Ten Things that every Gigi needs at her house

 • Bassinet/Crib/Pack ‘n Play: Since I knew the boys would be at my house a lot, I splurged on this bassinet that also converts into a crib. I’m also glad that I bought a Pack ‘N Play because with two boys around, we need all the safe places to sleep! If your grandkids aren’t in the same town, a pack ‘n play is a great alternative! This one converts from a bassinet to crib and you can also buy a changing table, which is what I did.
 • Play mat: This is a great thing to have at any Gigi’s house. Both boys love spending time on the ground – rolling around and for tummy time of course! This play mat is so soft and is machine washable. Henry loves spending time on his play mat for tummy time- much more so than William did!
 • Highchair/Booster seat: This is a must have. My dear friends gifted me with this highchair when William was born and they sure knew what they were doing! Now William has moved to a booster seat and he loves sitting at the counter for lunch, or at the table when we all have dinner together. Soon enough we will be bringing the high chair back out for Henry! Another alternative to a traditional high chair is this clip on one. It’s not bulky, you can move it from the bar to the table, etc. and store it in a closet when your grandkids aren’t visiting! Also, if you want a traditional high chair without breaking the bank, Ikea makes a great one!
 • Bouncer seat: While this isn’t the prettiest item, William loved it and now Henry does as well. It has a calming vibration, which Henry loved when he was a newborn and now he is obsessed with talking to the animals on the toy bar. I tend to keep it in a closet until the boys come over – it’s kind of an eye sore 😉
 • Diapers and water wipes: I try to keep a full supply so Stia doesn’t have to haul bulky diapers and heavy wipes. I usually order them on Amazon.
 • Bath Time: While not essential, I love to keep a hooded towel and washcloth, shampoo/body wash, lotion and bath toys. They don’t take many baths over here except during the summer. William can’t stay out of the pool, so a bath is necessary after! We got these letters and numbers that stick to the side of the tub and William loves them!
 • Clothing: I like to keep at least one extra set of pajamas and an extra outfit for each boy, so that if there is an “accident” we aren’t up a creek with nothing to wear!
 • Toys: I didn’t want to go overboard on toys, so we keep it to a few favorites that William always goes to when he is here. I also designated a William cabinet in my kitchen where he is free to play with anything that’s in there. When Henry gets a little bigger he’ll have his own cabinet too.
 • Books: William likes to read books when he needs to settle down and before nap time. I keep just a couple out at a time to keep his delay tactics to a minimum 😉
 • Eating: utensils, bowl and plate, sippy cups
I’m sure there’s something that I’ve forgotten, or maybe something that you other”Gigis” find to be essential for your grandbabies. Please let us know any additional ideas you have! Isn’t being a grandmother just the best?!

happy second birthday william!

January 15, 2018

Happy Birthday to my precious William! His official birthday was yesterday, but we’ve been celebrating all week/weekend long! We do birthdays big in our family and it’s been so much fun having William be so excited for his birthday, too. We celebrated with our friends and family at his birthday party Saturday (more on his party soon!) and lots of little family gatherings the rest of the weekend celebrating our precious William!

It’s cliché, but time goes way too fast. I just keep thinking back to those last weeks of my pregnancy with William, wondering if we would be having a boy or girl, what they would be like, how Caleb and I would change, how our family would evolve and what life would be like with a baby. In my wildest dreams, I couldn’t have ever imagined a more kind-hearted, loving and happy boy than William. God is so good.

PS: See William’s first year and his first birthday details!

Height/Weight

William is 36 inches tall and weighs about 28 pounds.

second birthday

february: spent a warm winter day in the park

second birthday

march: announcing his big brother status

Sleeping

He continues to be a good sleeper, thankfully! I pretty much know that whatever time I put him down, he’ll be waking up twelve hours later. He did have a few nights where he was waking up in the middle of the night, but that was when he was cutting his two year molars. He has a bed full of “lovies”; blankie, baba, Ellie, Henry’s bunny and Henry’s blanket. Ha – he insisted on sleeping with Henry’s guys soon after we brought Henry home from the hospital. So sweet.

second birthday

may: relaxing during our trip to scottsdale

Personality

I don’t even know where to begin! William has quite the personality. He is so friendly and says “Hi” to everyone he sees. He goes nonstop all.day.long. As soon as he gets up in the morning, he is ready to play with his bus/airplane/trains/trucks and blocks and it’s hard to pull him away from them for breakfast! His vocabulary has really taken off in the last month – it’s so fun to hear him say new words and hear his little voice chatting all day long. His favorite color is yellow and he has decided that Henry’s favorite color is green ;). He has quite a bit of sass to him – giving a “look” and then doing the thing he knows he shouldn’t. We’ve had a few sneak peeks into tantrums, but it’s usually when he’s overtired or hungry! William has adjusted to the big brother role better than I could have ever imagined. He adores his little brother and wants him by his side all day long!

second birthday

june: beach baby in laguna

second birthday

july: lots of dates to one of his favorite restaurants

Eating

Avocado is the big favorite these days. William wants to eat avocado on anything and everything! Avocado, fish, fruit and pretzels are his favorite things to eat. When we go to the grocery store, he wants to pick out all the “yellow” food, so we eat a lot of bananas, yellow apples, corn and lemon La Croix. I typically serve protein, grains and fruit for breakfast and then add in veggies for lunch/dinner. Somedays he eats good, somedays he doesn’t eat a thing! If I don’t portion out pretzel thins he would eat the whole bag in a day! I’m working on a separate post for meal ideas for kids and I also touched on what he likes to eat on our Q+A post!

second birthday

august: first day of Mothers’ Day out!

second birthday

september: welcomed his little brother Henry

Schedule

William typically wakes up between 7:45 – 8 am. Breakfast is usually around 8:30 and then play time while I get Henry up and fed. Before nap, we will run errands, go to an activity or play date, shoot for the blog or just play. Lunch is usually around 12:30/1 and William goes down for his nap around 2. His naps are getting shorter and he sleeps for about 2 hours now. He’s been such a good help in the kitchen, so after he wakes up from his nap he’ll help me get dinner ready or play with his toys. We try to eat by 6:30, then bath by 7:15 and bed by 8!

second birthday

october: happy halloween!

second birthday

november: a fall trip to Boston

Activities

Right now, his only consistent activity is school once a week. I was hesitant to put him into a Mother’s Day Out program last Fall, but I am so glad that I did. He gets so excited on school days and misses his friends on the days he’s not there. It’s too cute! We also go to the park and take walks when it’s warm enough and he also loves days when we do a Children’s museum or go to Play Street. His favorite toys are trains, mega blocks and the Little People airplane and bus. He’s also loving painting and helping anyway he can in the kitchen! Baking, cooking and watching us make coffee!

second birthday

december: made the nice list ;)

William, the last two years have been an absolute joy. We love you!

Cheers,

Stia, Jean and Katherine
