Ford Fletcher Coffman

July 30, 2019

newborn baby in blue bow swaddle

We are so happy and pleased to introduce the newest addition to our family, Ford Fletcher Coffman. He was born a little more than a week early and has been our joy ever since. We are so grateful and feel so very blessed to be the parents of this little angel. His birth story is so different than William and Henry’s and a wild ride for sure!

I’ll start this story from Monday, June 24th. I went in for my last doctor appointment on Monday afternoon. We had a sonogram scheduled to check on the size of baby and fluid levels since I was diagnosed at 28 weeks with gestational diabetes. Baby was measuring the right size for gestational age and fluid levels were good! When my doctor checked to see if I had progressed at all she said I was 2 cm and 75% effaced. We then chatted about my induction scheduled for the next Monday (July 1st) and if I were to go into labor before then, give her a call.

I had just assumed that I would make it to my induction on July 1st because 1) Both my boys were born on their due dates, not early and 2) July 1st was a few days before my July 5th due date.

It had been an emotional few days – we had lost our 17 year old family cat on Tuesday morning after a few hard days. That and the end of pregnancy was taking a toll on me and I was hardly sleeping. On Wednesday evening, we had the boys’ swim lessons, picked up tacos and had a really fun evening swimming and playing with the boys at my parents. After we got home and got the boys to bed, I decided to take a Unisom to help sleep after my lack of sleep the past few nights. I was surprised that at 3:00 a.m. I woke up to Braxton-Hicks contractions. I thought since I had taken Unisom, I would be able to fall back asleep, but I just couldn’t.

At 4:00 a.m. I decided to download a contraction tracking app because the Braxton-Hicks kept coming. At this point, they were coming every 5 minutes and lasting about 45 seconds. I decided to wake Caleb and he told me to take a bath to see if they would stop. I hopped in the bath, still under the impression it was false labor. After I got out of the tub, Caleb suggested we go to hospital to get checked. He could tell I was having a harder time. I texted my mom at 5:30 and told her I thought I might be in labor, but wasn’t sure. We decided to pack up our bags – even though I kept telling Caleb we would be turned away because it was just Braxton-Hicks. We called my parents to see if they could come over to be at the house with the boys while we headed to the hospital, but they weren’t answering their phones, so we got in the car, drove to their house to wake them up and then left for the hospital, which is right down the street. At this point my contractions were two minutes apart and lasting about 45 seconds.

As we pulled into the hospital, Caleb asked to drop me off in front and I said I would just wait for the contraction to be over and then we could park and walk in together. At this point, I still didn’t believe I was truly in labor. For William, my water broke at home and the contractions were one right after another and pitocin at the end. For Henry, I was induced so I just felt contractions with Pitocin again. This was so different because it was extremely painful, but I knew exactly when the contraction started, when it peaked and when I would start to feel some relief. We walked into the hospital at 6:10 a.m. and checked into labor & delivery about 6:20. The next part is somewhat of a blur. I was getting an IV put in, having to answer questions, etc. all while shaking uncontrollaby – I just thought I was nervous! Come to find out, when the nurse finally checked how far along I was, she told me I was fully dilated. I was in absolute shock.

In sheer panic I told Caleb, “Call our doctor and tell her we are here! Text our families!” I was freaking out. The nurse said they had called my doctor when we checked in (I guess she could tell that I wasn’t going to be going home!), and while my doctor was on the way to the hospital, she called Caleb and told him that I wouldn’t have time for an epidural. When he told me that, I freaked. It was not part of my plan at all. I told him to text my family and close friends to pray as I was a mess!

The anesthesiologist had just finished placing an epidural in the room next door and the nurse said I could try to see if it would take before I felt the urge to push. As soon as it was being placed, my doctor walked in and gave me a huge pep talk, saying pushing is the only way for the pain to end. The epidural didn’t work before I felt the urge to push. After pushing three times through one contraction, our precious Ford Fletcher Coffman was born at 6:37 am, weighing 8 lbs 4 oz and 19.5 inches long! I was not shocked at all when Caleb said “it’s a boy”! That was my gut feeling for my whole pregnancy. I was in complete shock that it was just after 6:30 a.m. and we already had our baby! I couldn’t believe that just three hours earlier I had woken up to my first contractions and here he was!

There is nothing as magical as meeting your baby for the first time. Caleb and I enjoyed some bonding time with Ford and then my parents brought in the boys around 7:30, because they were dying to meet their baby brother! Ever since the three boys met, they have been obsessed with their brother- it sure makes my heart happy!

We decided on Ford’s name a few hours after he was born. Ford is a name that we just really liked and Fletcher is my great-great-grandfather’s last name. We’ve used all family last names for the boys’ middle names and I wanted to continue the tradition for our last baby! Ford has been a dream baby so far and we are crazy over him!

We can not fully express our love for this little guy and how thankful we are that his big brothers are crazy over him too! We can foresee some fun and wild adventures down the road with these three boys and we can’t wait. God is good.

Our Favorite Summer Shoes for Toddlers

Our Favorite Summer Shoes for Toddlers

One of our most popular posts this spring has been Our Top Five Summer Shoes for Toddlers, which we posted almost two years ago. Even though our favorites haven’t changed a lot, it seemed like it was time for an updated list! Stia was pregnant with Henry back then and William has grown so much. They are both very active, and our lifestyle has changed a bit with two very busy toddler boys, but our favorites back then still work great for both boys. So here we have our updated favorite summer shoes for toddlers.

Sandals

This may be a given, but sandals are necessary especially when it starts to really get hot! I think Salt Water sandals are the sweetest for boys or girls. My boys have tan and navy for this summer and I just love the look of them. They are classic. My mom had my brother and I wearing them when we were toddlers! I’m tempted to buy the boys the Footmates version. Whoever created these are a genius – they are velcro so easy on/off! Love this pink sandal, this gold sandal and floral sandals for girls!

Native Shoes

The boys love wearing their native shoes because it usually means we are going to play with water or swim! These are the best shoes because they can get wet or dirty and they’re so easy to dry off and get clean! Plus, they come in every color possible! The boys have navy and yellow this year, but I am tempted to order them white, too! If you have a daughter, the pink glitter version is adorable, this floral pair is perfect for summer and the new mary jane style is too cute!

Sneakers

The sneakers I like for William and Henry are a more European style of sneaker, rubber soled with canvas uppers. Our favorites are Chus and Cientas. They’re colorful and lightweight, and most styles are machine washable. They boys have this style in red and they have these in navy that can be worn with or without laces. We like these with a velcro closure too. These are the cutest for girls! Note: Chus and Cientas can be hard to find online, so check with your local children’s boutiques if you have trouble finding the right color or size.

Rain Boots

We couldn’t do a post on toddler shoes without mentioning Hunter boots. William and Henry love them! They like to wear them at anytime, not just in the rain. The love wearing them out in the backyard to play or to the park. And when we get some rain, they can’t wait to put them on and splash in the puddles! Again, there is a rainbow of colors to choose from! PS: How adorable is this rain coat and umbrella?! We’ve needed them in Dallas with this rainy spring!

Special Occasions

In our opinion there is nothing sweeter than toddlers in classic saddle shoes. We love to have the boys wear them for special occasions and to church. Besides the classic navy and white, there are so many colors available now, this red and white style is so cute. There are even sizes for babies. Whenever we have a chance to dress the boys up a little, out come the saddle shoes! For little girls, Mary Janes are so adorable. These scalloped ones are precious and we love these in navy. PS: Don’t forget knee high socks or ankle socks!

And Baby Makes…

March 4, 2019

baby announcement mom two toddlers

And baby makes five! Caleb (and William & Henry) and I are so excited to annouce we are expecting Baby #3 in early July! The boys are thrilled and keep talking about and kissing our baby. It makes me so excited to see William as a big brother to two and Henry moving into a big brother role!

Caleb and I both come from families of two kids, so in our minds, that is what we always thought our family would be, too. We had talked in previous months about if we wanted three or not and had decided to wait until the boys got a little older, if we felt like that was God’s plan for our family. We had a few trips planned by ourselves and I was looking forward to a period of time not being pregnant or nursing – which hasn’t been since May of 2015!

God’s plan is always greater than what we can come up with on our own and now that we are expecting our third, I can’t imagine us just being a family of four. I am a bit nervous with three under 3.5 years old, but it also just feels right. Thank God that we were able to find and renovate our new home before we found out we were expecting #3, giving us room for three little ones. He really took care of us as far as being prepared goes!

I fully meant to share this news earlier, but with the Holidays, William’s birthday, our trip to Maui, then the boys were sick and I was battling a sinus infection and double ear infection – we had to reschedule many times! I am so happy to finally share with all of you!

We are just so very thankful to God for this new life and can’t wait to meet our new little one in just four short months! I’d love to hear if any of you are expecting and when you are due! Also would love any tips on transition to three – we will have our hands full with three under 3.5!

When are you due?

I am due July 5th!

How Far Along?

I am currently 22 weeks 3 days and entering into my sixth month of pregnancy!

How did you find out?

I was a few days late, but chalked it up to the stress of the remodel. At that time, I didn’t think I was that stressed, but that was in the middle of all of our selections being installed and it was stressful seeing the house transforming. It seemed every day there was a new decision to be made and when I realized I was a couple days late, I decided to take a pregnancy test. I called Caleb crying because I was in shock (he was at work) and he couldn’t have been more thrilled!

How are you feeling?

Overall, I’m feeling good! I am very tired and ready to crawl into bed around 9:30, but otherwise good! The first trimester had it’s usual morning sickness symptoms, but thankfully around 15 weeks the nausea went away. The first trimester was very similar to my pregnancy with Henry, just more nausea and it seemed to last longer. Besides having a 24- hour food poisioning in November, it was a pretty bearable first trimester!

Will you find out the gender?

Nope! We didn’t find out what we were having with either of the boys and we are so excited for the big surprise again. You can read about why we chose to wait on this post – it all holds true from when I was pregnant with William, minus planning an unmedicated birth 😉

Pregnancy Must-Haves

These stomach drops helped with nausea and I’ve been using this mama belly oil to try and avoid stretch marks and love them. Thank you mom for finding both for me to use!
