william 2.5 year update in the Algarve

|| happiest at the beach ||

I can’t believe how every stage of baby gets that much better, but I think this has been my favorite stage that William has been in so far. He is so sweet and loving, has quite the infectious personality and is just so joyful. Now that he is talking, I just love hearing the way he phrases things and how he communicates. He talks himself to sleep most nights and it is so much fun seeing how his brain is developing and how things/thoughts are connecting! He adores his little brother and people close to him, but if he doesn’t know you, he is as shy as can be! He is turning into a kind, tender-hearted and full of life little boy and I couldn’t be more proud of him!

Keep scrolling to read his 2.5 year old update and see some pictures from the past few weeks! PS: At the very bottom, I’ve linked our must-have baby/toddler items from the Nordstrom Anniversary for any of you moms/moms-to-be!

HEIGHT/WEIGHT

William is in the 80th percentile for height and 50th percentile for weight. He’s tending towards tall and lean. He’s tracked that way his whole life so far!

SLEEPING

I was worried that we may have some sleep regressions after moving William to his big boy bed, but he did so good! The transition went so smoothly and I was glad I waited until he was ready. He sleeps for about 11-12 hours at night and typically gets a 2 hour nap in during the day. A few months ago, he had a major nap regression – I thought it could be the end of his naps – but, I just kept putting him down for a “rest” day after day and eventually he started to nap again- thankfully!

PERSONALITY

William is sweet, he is tender-hearted, he is bossy and he is a ball of energy and brings us all so much joy and laughter. He is very protective over Henry and it so sweet to see the two of them playing and laughing together. He is a rule follower (most of the time), likes to tell everyone what to do and keeps me on my toes. His little mind blows me away. He remembers everything and associates different places with different things. He loves puzzles and I love watching him put them together. He’s started to say “one more time, mommy” and then when I say “ok, one more time” he says “two more times, mommy.” Always trying for more!

EATING

William eats 3 meals and 2 snacks a day. For breakfast, he drinks a cup of almond milk and either almond butter toast with banana, turkey sausage and fruit or whole wheat waffles and fruit. For lunch, he loves avocado toast, chicken, or a turkey sandwich. I always serve fruit and some type of veggie, too – even if it’s just a veggie pouch. He’ll eat what we eat for dinner, but his favorite food is salmon, or almost any kind of fish, and he really started liking lamb on our trip. We’ve slowly started to introduce dairy products (in the past he has had a dairy sensitivity and eczema). He is not into veggies at all. I try with every meal, but the only veggies he likes to eat are raw carrots dipped in ranch. That’s why I started to give him vegetable pouches. He’ll eat those and at least he gets some vegies that way!

SCHEDULE

His schedule hasn’t changed much since his last update. He is starting to wake up earlier – typically around 7:30. He goes down for a nap around 2 pm. Bed is usually around 7:30/8 pm depending on if he napped that day!

ACTIVITIES

William finished his first year of Mother’s Day Out in May and it has been so nice having him at home! This summer we haven’t had any weekly scheduled activities. I didn’t enroll him in any camps and it’s been so nice having a flexible summer, especially with our move and traveling. He’ll go to Mother’s Day Out twice a week in the Fall, so I am soaking up all this time while I can. We go swimming most days, the park in the morning before it gets too hot and we spend a lot of time doing floor puzzles. He loves to paint, play with his cars and trains and he goes 90-miles an hour all day everyday. He just recently started to be able to sit down to watch a “show” and he loves to talk about/look at anything to do with ambulances, police cars, firetrucks, helicopters, airplanes etc. He points out every type of vehicle while we are out driving!

Must-Have Baby Items from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

With so many amazing deals going on during the Anniversary Sale – I thought I would share some of my must-have baby/toddler items from the Nordstrom Anniversary sale:

  • Dockatot: One of my favorite “new” baby products we used with Henry. We used the Grand size while we were in London for William to sleep in. It worked out so perfectly.
  • Chenille blanket: Both of my boys have this blanket in the security size and larger size. They are so soft and have held up well, even though they use them everyday!
  • Native shoes: William loves these shoes during the summer – perfect for out by the pool and at the park.
  • Convertible car seat: This is the car seat that we use for William and will use for Henry when we make the switch, any day now.
  • Humidifier: This is the humidifier we use in the boys rooms. It’s good for keeping their noses clear when the air is dry.
  • Hooded towel: This is the softest hooded towel!
  • Sippy cups: William used these so much, I’m definitely ordering the blue set for Henry.
  • New baby gift set: This is a great gift idea for a new mom or mom-to-be.
  • Play Mat: We’ve loved our Nook play mat!
  • Swaddling cloths set: Now is the time to stock up on the softest and sweetest swaddles.

18 months with william

July 18, 2017

little boy in sunsiut

|so happy to explore the zoo| sunsuit , sandals |

We can hardly believe it’s been 18 months with William. It really seems like he was just turning one! It has been such a fun ride with this little love bug. He is continually surprising us with the things he says and does. We just never know what’s next! He’s an absolute joy and the biggest blessing and we are so grateful for this angel in our lives! He has the sweetest personality – loves blowing kisses, giving kisses and snuggles. And my heart could explode thinking about him loving on his baby brother or sister in just 6 weeks.

To celebrate 18 months with William we took him for his first trip to the Dallas Zoo. We all had a blast, even though it was one of the hottest days so far this summer. William squealed over some of the animals, and especially over riding the monorail around the zoo. He loved feeding the giraffes and wasn’t the least bit afraid. In fact he liked it so much, we had to buy more lettuce for a second round of feeding 🙂

HEIGHT/WEIGHT

William still continues to track long and lean at 18 months old. He’s definitely lost some of the baby fat in his cheeks and doesn’t have the belly like he used too!

SLEEPING

Thank goodness William likes his sleep as much as I do. He consistently sleeps 11-12 hours at night and at least a three hour nap during the day. We’ve been keeping “summer hours,” where he hasn’t been going to bed until 8:30/9 and sleeps until about 8:30. I think all the traveling has messed up his earlier bedtime, but I can’t blame him not wanting to go to bed when it’s still light out. I’ve really enjoyed him staying up because we go for nice walks after dinner or to the park and it’s not 100 degrees! Now that we are back home until baby #2 arrives, we will probably start trying to get him to bed earlier! And on that note… we will be starting to transition William to his big boy bed soon. We have the bed set up in his room and he is obsessed with it. Just wanted to make sure we had a month at home without travel before trying it out!

NURSING

At 15-months old, I was still nursing William once a day, in the morning. I knew that we were getting close to completely weaning, I just didn’t know how/when to completely drop that last feeding. Our whole weaning process was gradual, so I took the same approach with this. One morning he was busy playing right away, so I didn’t nurse him and just gave him a sippy cup of almond milk. The next day he would want to nurse. It continued like this until he just decided he was done. I am so happy with the way it worked out because I didn’t have a “last time to nurse” but instead it was a gradual process.

PERSONALITY

I don’t even know where to begin with this. He is just the happiest guy around. He is full of personality – always the life of the party, but also so concentrated on learning. He quickly picks up on anything going on around him. He took to tennis at Wimbledon like we couldn’t believe and before we knew it, he was swinging his arm as if he had a racket like the pros! He loves to be chased and gets the biggest twinkle in his eye when he wants to play. He isn’t saying a lot of words that anyone but us can understand, but he is a great communicator and we know exactly what he’s saying with or without words. Every single day is more and more fun, although it doesn’t seem like that could be possible! We have definitely seen flashes of temper and willfulness, but his sweetness is his overwhelming character trait. He loves on his “lovies” and he loves on us in the sweetest ways. It’s so precious and melts our hearts.

SOLIDS

Our pediatrician said it would happen soon at the 15-month appointment, and we have been definitely been going through a bit of a food strike. He still eats well, but I’ve learned his appetite has definitely slowed down! I try to make sure William gets a big breakfast and then offer him food every few hours. Breakfast is usually whole wheat mini waffles, oatmeal or almond butter toast and some fruit. He also has been loving sausage and eggs. For lunch, he eats anything from grilled chicken, to turkey sandwiches to quesadillas. I always put some veggies out and fruit to finish. For dinner, William typically eats what we eat. He loves salmon (or any kind of fish really), grilled chicken and taco meat. I’ve found that Dr. Praegers broccoli, kale, spinach or sweet potato littles are a good way for him to get veggies in the evening. As always, we have no trouble eating fruit so we usually end with that for dessert!

SCHEDULE

Like I mentioned above, our schedule is a little off right now. We’ve been traveling a lot this summer, so everything has been later than usual. William now wakes up around 8:30 and we eat breakfast right away. We will play at the house for awhile and then run errands if we have any, do any shoots for the blog, play outside in the pool, etc. Around 12:30 we will start lunch and then right after lunch he goes down for his only nap. This is when I do the majority of my work on the blog. He is usually up around 3:30/4, we will have a snack and then play some more. Dinner is usually around 7/7:30 and then we take a walk or go the park. Bath time around 8 and bed around 8:30. We are on a really fun summer schedule right now 🙂

TEETH

It’s been nice to have a break from teething. It looks like he is close to cutting his two year molars on the bottom, but other than those two year molars, thankfully we are done with that stage!

TRAVEL

We’ve continued traveling with William and thankfully he loves to travel. He gets sooo excited to see our suitcases come out- it’s hilarious! He loves the airport and being on the plane, but keeping him in his seat or on the floor with us is a challenge these days. This year he’s been to LA, Las Vegas, Gulf Shores, Scottsdale, Minnesota, Laguna Beach and Vail. I’m working on a traveling with a toddler post – so please send me any questions!

FAVORITE PRODUCTS

  • Zoli Sippy Cup: This was the first sippy cup we tried and thankfully it worked great for William. This package of two is currently on sale, so I stocked up on them!
  • Maxi Cosi Pria 70: A lot of you have asked which car seat we moved William to when he outgrew the infant car seat. We’ve been really happy with the Maxi Cosi and William still loves riding in cars! I like that it has a cup holder and even though it’s big, it fits in our travel car seat bag.
  • DockATot Grand: Although we haven’t moved William to his big boy bed yet, we’ve been getting everything ready. DockATot sent us a Grand to try and William loves to snuggle up in it and cuddle his elephant and blankie.
  • Divided plates for meal time: These plates are great for meal time since we are trying to put all food groups in front of him at once.
  • Booster Seat: We moved William from the high chair to a booster seat and he is loving sitting in a chair next to us.
  • Native shoes: These shoes are worn at least once a day and are quickly becoming our go-to shoes that are perfect for playing outside and the pool. Here is my list of top five summer shoes for toddlers!
  • Monogramed Backpack: We picked up this backpack for William for when he starts Mother’s Day Out this fall, but it has already come in handy during summer travel. It’s from Hip Hip Hooray, a local Dallas store. They have different sizes and so many colors. We also got the matching dopp kitt, monogrammed of course!
  • Pajamas: William has been living in this short sleeve striped pajama set.
  • Beaufort Bonnet: This adorable on line boutique is still our favorite place to shop for William’s jon jon’s, sunsuits, shorts and polos. He’s been wearing Beaufort since he was a newborn and we still love it 1.5 years later.
  • Nordstrom: One of our favorite places to buy shoes, find basics and fill in a more casual wardrobe for William – see some of our favorite on this summer packing essentials post.

Thank you so much for following along on our journey! We love you all!

my favorite moments at home with william

May 8, 2017

pajama romper and pink robe

With Mother’s Day just around the corner, I’ve been reflecting a lot on being William’s mommy. It’s such a blessing and I don’t ever want to take any of it for granted. One of the things I’ve been thinking about is my everyday favorite moments with William. There is so much joy in those seemingly ordinary times. Just a little caveat: we also have our moments of struggle too. William is 15 months old after all! I’ll save those moments for another time 🙂

Mornings with William

After William wakes up I usually bring him into bed with me for some morning snuggles. They don’t last very long but they are very sweet. I’ll have my coffee and he’ll have his sippy cup of almond milk and we typically read a few stories (over and over again). There are usually also some sweet kisses and tickling involved! I’m not exactly a morning person, so I love having this time to wake up together. Then we head downstairs for breakfast, and our day begins!

Evenings with William

Other than nap time and eating, William doesn’t stop all day. He takes one long nap in the afternoon, usually about 3-4 hours, and after that he’s non-stop. Believe me I am so thankful for that long afternoon nap! One of my other favorite times with William is when bedtime rolls around. I love our bedtime routine (it’s just changed slightly since he was nine months old!). After dinner, William takes a bath (which is his favorite time of the day with Caleb), then we get him in his pajamas. We play in his nursery for a while, trying to get all his energy out. Even after a non-stop day, he has still has energy to burn! I can usually tell when he’s about ready for bed when he starts to rub his eyes. That’s when we grab a couple of his favorite books and crawl up in the rocker for story time. He will actually sit still and relax for a little while we read and snuggle. Then we say our goodnight prayers, say goodnight to William’s animal friends and tuck William in bed. Precious moments.

What are your favorite moments with your little ones?
